CMU

As could be predicted, the "A-side" match against CMURFC was very physical. The typically brutish squad from Mount Pleasant pounded the ball inside time and time again, more often than not off of ruck ball to one of their two-twenty plus pound centers. Our defense was better than last weekend, however the Exiles were victorious in the end 55-12. It should be noted that the majority of our first XV were playing just their second season of rugby against CMU's all but one returning starters. While there were brief moments of brilliance by the blue, in particular two long trys by Gerrit "G1" Ynetma and some stalwart tackles by both Captains Chuq & Sauce, it was Hooker Steve "Bongo" Offinger who displayed "Man of the Match" qualities. Bongo was relentless in pursuit, ferocious in the loose, and played inspirational rugby for the entirety of eighty minutes.

The "B-side" match was very entertaining, with a total of twenty-two UMRFC players taking the field at one point or another during the match. Michigan scored first, and the lead vollied back and forth until late in the second half when the more experienced Central Michigan took control of the match. UMRFC stand out players from the match include freshman Scrumhalf Eugene, our two french Centers "Vianney & Gregory", and Fullback Adam Alexander who gave lessons in taking the ball at pace - scoring a seventy meter try in the second half against a stunned and bewildered CMU backline.

The weather was terrific, the new pitch well groomed, and the turn-out by the UMRFC (both veterans and new members) fantastic. Keep up the good work.
